A crash after a few laps has ruined what could have been a very positive Sunday for Jorge Navarro and team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand.
The young Spaniard, who was starting the race from the seventeenth grid-slot, did indeed find a good set-up with his Kalex machine as it was clear during warm up. Unfortunately, a crash at turn three with few laps in – and after a double overtake – changed the outcome of the fifteenth race of the season.
Navarro’s tenacity, however, meant that the Spaniard re-joined the race to finish 17thwith a very competitive pace that could have given him a much stronger result had the tumble not taken place. Navarro will be back in action in two weeks at Motegi.
17th– JORGE NAVARRO #9
“After a troubled weekend, I believe we did find a good set-up for the race. I knew I could do well and during the first lap I took advantage of a crash in front of me to move up to 12th. I had slower riders in front of me: at turn three they hit the brakes early and I ended up crashing while overtaking them. Telemetry said nothing was wrong, but this is how racing goes sometimes. I was able to get back up and return to the track and showed a top-six race pace. The feeling was good, so we keep it with ourselves ahead of Japan.
